What Makes a Bad Website? / What Makes a Good Website?

The websites on the worst of web design of 2008 often have bad animation and too many words, like the worst one I've seen, that had a crude animation rotate around the screen, that had nothing to do with the website. It also incorporated too many colors, and the words were arranged in a chaotic manner. Most other bad websites are to crowded, not focus, disorganized, or it takes the viewer too long to figure out what the website is even about. The biggest annoyance is how long it takes for the website to load. Not to mention the interactiveness of the website that makes you wait, which is totally unnecessary.

The websites of the best of web design of 2008 can be interactive, but in a productive manner. They're good-looking, simple but effective. They load fast (most importantly), and are clear to describe right away what they are about.

Blog 7: Feedback for Change

According to the warm feedback I got on "Rights of Man/Glasgow Gaelic Club" track, It was sufficient and powerful. Although it does have white noise in the background. So I would have to fade out at the end, after the last note already falls silent.
The warm feedback I got on "Gloomy Winter" was its way of capturing powerful emotions, and the overlapping tracks were very effective. I didn't really have any cool feedback on it. But personally I would apply the same fade out technique for the ending just so it doesn't sound too cut and dry.

Blog 6: Reflection; Tools and Technique

In reference to garageband technique, I used the brightening tool, that I forgot that actual name of. It brightened the sound of the treble, and complimented the bass. I also snipped each end so it sounds a little more professional. And then I added a symbol effect at certain points of the song where it would fit. This was to add variety, and create a sort of transition between the verses or bridges.

Connecting My Project To My Art Definition

My completee definition of art is a form of abstract expression (and abstract doesn't mean surreal) that requires a certain amount of skill to carry out the form of it. Something that takes time and patience. It doesn't have to have a meaning. An example of "Not Art" is a painting done in 5 minutes (unless it gets a certain reaction out of people, like in the beatnik era) or a painting done by somone that has not worked on techniqe at all. Something not really creative, hacked up and half-assed.

My recording is a two song series of traditional Celtic tunes and songs. They are not original, but in that field of art, the craft is to create one's own interpretation and arrangement of them. They are also a demonstration of the craft of recording an arrangement in a strategic way.
Celtic music is interpreted differently by people. The moods of the melodies and lyrics are passionate, mellow, angry, happy, sad, whatever. It is mythical and can be historical. These two particular pieces I chose are a set of two dance tunes, and a song in Scots. A lot of Scottish songs, I find are sort of melencholy, but I don't know why. The song "Gloomy Winter" is actuallya love song and expresses feeling in nature, which is a Celtic value.

The most difficult part of this project for me so far has been computers. I've had a difficult time with uploading mp3 files onto anywhere. But to talk about a challenge I actually have gotten over, the second most difficult part of the project was recording "Gloomy Winter": Lining up the tracks so that they fit with each other, and also making sure that the atmosphere around me was still and quiet. It's hard to record voice tracks because they're alive and have their own personalities to harness. Getting over this challenge was having to record over and over again.
